CORPO CASA
The exhibition „Corpo Casa” seeks to explore the meaning of “being a woman”. Dorazio Brockhausen sees the female body as the home and asks herself, and other women, what it means to inhabit it.
Her interest focuses on unfolding female experiences, through a design process that relies on female collaboration in itself. To explore this concept, the artist counted on the participation of several women, majoritively Brazilian and German. Each of the collaborators shared with Dorazio an image depicting a body part of their choice, along with testimonials that reflected on the chosen body part and its significance in the existence as a woman.
The gathered materials turned into subjects, which were then painted on doors, windows and mirrors. “I see these paintings as bodies, ones which should not be passively hanging on a wall, but making themselves present in the space. I searched for a surface, that could add in more meaning to the work, which is why I chose not to paint on canvases. In that case, they would appear too traditional and almost decorative.” The bodies which the artist talks about, stand confidently in the gallery Rottstr5Kunsthallen in Bochum, Germany. There, they are no longer bidimensional artworks, as they gain depth and shape themselves into an installation.
